First stops and next steps for the individual!

Autism roadmaps offer a comprehensive outline of life stages and recommended supports, linking to birth-to-adulthood, early intervention, school-year, and transition roadmaps (noting the 18+ adulthood transition).

  • Some autistic children require intensive early intervention, though excessive labeling can be harmful—proper assessments guide strategies that build on their strengths.

  • Post-intervention, children transition to public, private, or homeschool settings, with neurodivergent children in the U.S. eligible for special education accommodations.

  • By age 18, transition planning begins, supported by roadmap-linked agency resources for adulthood steps.

These roadmaps, whether customized for specific states/nations or presented in a more general manner, provide guidance. The hyperlinks embedded within these roadmaps lead to valuable information on the subject.
