Clinical Defintion - DYSLEXIA
DSM-5 Clinical Definition (paraphrased for clarity and illustration):
Specific Learning Disorder, with impairment in reading (commonly known as dyslexia), is characterized by difficulties in accurate or fluent word reading, poor decoding, and poor spelling abilities that have persisted for at least 6 months, despite targeted intervention. These reading difficulties are substantially below what is expected for the individual’s age and cause significant interference with academic or occupational performance or daily living.
